Catherine's Annual Christmas Service of Carols Pays Tribute to Community Volunteers

Her Royal Highness has organised her annual Yuletide celebration at the iconic London venue, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have supported their local areas.

The sizable congregation will hear a mix of carols, music and readings from performers including Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

A Theme of Compassion and Love

The focus of the event, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on the afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Attending the event are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose child passed away from a brain tumour, and who founded an organisation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often quietly and unspoken, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an extraordinary difference to the circumstances of individuals," wrote Catherine in a message before the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to public life following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her first public speech for two years, in which she discussed recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Performance and Potential

Guests arriving at the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists aided by the charitable trust Future Talent, established in part by the late Duchess of Kent to increase availability of musical tuition.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been helped by the trust, with funding assisting with equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "incredible" to be taking part in the evening's event.

"Music can be very expensive," the musician remarked. She is now a student at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to develop their musical skills.

Generations Gathering

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who plays the euphonium, will be present at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many important people," she said.

Attending the service will be representatives of different generations.

That will feature young Saphia Turner, nine, winner of a prize for youthful altruism, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to collect donations for community pantries.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been decorated with specially made wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Taking to the stage will be singer Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a Cornish sea shanty group, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the icing on the cake for us."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
